Beate C. Koehler is interested in questions of identity and the relationship between humans and the environment. Her current work focuses on the element of water in all its manifestations. She creates water portraits from photographic, film and sound material. The artist collects visual and sonic impressions on her travels to lakes, rivers and seas around the world. She has worked extensively on the lakes of Bremen and Weser, on the river Main, on the Pacific coast of San Francisco, in the Arctic in the area of Longyearbyen/Svalbard and on watercourses, the coast and glacier tongues in Nordland/Northern Norway.

Involved in photography since the age of 11, initially analogue and with her own black and white photo lab. From the early 2000s with a digital camera. Intensification of photographic practice motivated by a first 6-month stay in London in 2012, strengthened by a second in 2015 (sabbatical). Resulting from this first exhibition activities.
